Professorship position available at VUB - Faculty of Engineering Sciences

Education

The candidate will be responsible for courses taken by Bachelor students of the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Science and of courses taken by Master students in Photonics. More in particular he/she can be charged with an introductory course in Physics for Bachelor students in engineering and/or science, quantum physics for electrotechnical engineers, and with more advanced courses in the Master Photonics, like optical sensors.

Research

The candidate will perform research that fits within the research activities of the department of Applied Physics and Photonics. We expect that the candidate accomplishes research in photonics (with a focus on aspects of applied physics in photonics) with international visibility, more in particular:

research of excellent quality resulting in publications in international peer review journals in the fields of photonics and applied physics
demonstrable experience with project recruitment on different levels (national and international)
demonstrable experience in the supervision and guidance of PhD students

Moreover we expect that the candidate is willing to accept tasks in different faculty (and even university) boards and committees and that he/she will contribute to the visibility of the university.

Degree

Electrotechnical engineer and doctor in applied sciences or master in science and doctor in sciences. Candidates will be selected and ranked on the basis of their track record. Appointment of the best candidate will only happen after a positive evaluation of a test lesson.
