University of St. Andrews

Photonics is recognised as one of the strengths of Scottish Universities.

The School of Physics and Astronomy at St Andrews has strong activities in photonic crystals, optical parametric oscillators, polymer optoelectronics, semiconductor optoelectronics, ultrashort pulsed lasers, microchip lasers, quantum degenerate gases, experimental quantum optics, optical micromanipulation and Biophotonics. See http://www.standrews.ac.uk/academic/physics/ and links therein for further details.

The School has also in recent years secured major research funding (in excess of £5M) in the Life Sciences interface area from various funding bodies in addition to >£20M funding in core photonics.
