IDIBELL - Bellvitge Institute for Biomedical Research

IDIBELL

The Bellvitge Institute for Biomedical Research (IDIBELL) is a research foundation which has scientific cooperation agreements with the following institutions/centres: University of Barcelona (UB) and its science park, Bellvitge University Hospital (HUB), Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), Institute for Imaging Diagnosis (IDI) and Transfusion Centre and Tissue Bank (CTBT). Over the last two years, IDIBELL's growth has been exponential, and there is the political and management will among the various institutions comprising it to promote IDIBELL as a biomedical centre of excellence.

There are five main research areas at IDIBELL, with the most prominent being Cancer and human molecular genetics. Furthermore, IDIBELL is well equipped with the most advanced techniques for biomedical applied research (including microarrays, proteomic analysis, tissue array technology, Automated Laser Capture Microdissection, magnetic cell sorting, FACS, confocal microscopes, electron microscope, animal facilities for immunocompromised and transgenic mice... etc).

Our groups are focused on the study of the pathogenic process of angiogenesis and metastasis, with a particular interest on the mechanisms of resistance to therapy, with the final aim to develop new cancer metastasis predictive markers, diagnostic tools and improve therapies.
