Photonics4Life to host Interdisciplinary Summerschool

The summerschool of P4L offers a new approach towards interdisciplinary learning in Biophotonics. To foster education and communication across disciplines one half of the lecturers and the attending students at the P4L Summerschool will have a medical and one half a technological background in Biophotonics. Topics are consequently lectured by speaker tandems to shed light on the matter from both angles. To increase the effect some of the tandems even work together on mutual biophotonics projects.

The school will be held in an old castle in Schkopau, in the center of Germany, and will have an interesting social program with bow shooting and 4-wheel-driving in a near by daylight mine.

Round Robin Experiment

Raman spectroscopy has already proved its effectiveness in many cases for medical diagnostics such as for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. However, there are no standards in the different working groups, e.g. for sample preparation, implementation of the Raman experiments, spectra pre-treatment, data evaluation, etc.In a round robin experiment, the required groundwork will take place in order to define standardised Raman measurement methods, which will be fundamental for establishing Raman spectroscopy for clinical diagnostic procedures.
