Photonics Europe: Best Biophotonics Poster

In the frame of the subconference, "Biophotonics: Photonic Solutions for Better Health Care", the prize for the best poster presentation went to Nika Razansky from the Technical University of Munich. Topic of her thesis was: "High resolution single-mode fiber-based sensor for Intravascular Detection of Fluorescent Molecular Probes. The award was handed over following the poster session by J├╝rgen Popp (IPHT Jena, University of Jena) on Tuesday in the Delvaux Foyer. Along with the prize Razansky received a book token for 500 Euros, which was sponsored by the Journal of Biophotonics and Wiley-VCH Publisher.

Round Robin Experiment

Raman spectroscopy has already proved its effectiveness in many cases for medical diagnostics such as for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. However, there are no standards in the different working groups, e.g. for sample preparation, implementation of the Raman experiments, spectra pre-treatment, data evaluation, etc.In a round robin experiment, the required groundwork will take place in order to define standardised Raman measurement methods, which will be fundamental for establishing Raman spectroscopy for clinical diagnostic procedures.
