Collaborative work with Olympus

Olympus researchers have participated in the Annual International Conference “Saratov Fall Meeting” (http://sfm.eventry.org/2013/), organized by the Department of Optics and Biophotonics (SSU) in Saratov, Russia. They also got acquainted with the research achievements of the Department, Research-Educational Institute of Optics and Biophotonics, and International Research and Educational Center "Photonics." As a result, taking into account the wide research experience of Prof. Valery Tuchin’s group in the field of optics of biological tissues, they offered the cooperation. Within two months Olympus employee Yohei Tanikawa conducted the experimental research with a group of PhD students and young employees of the Department of Optics and Biophotonics and the Research Department of SSU. The group was headed by Associate Professor E.A. Genina and Professor V.V. Tuchin, in these studies the most actively participants were PhD Irina Yanina, PhD students Iana Tarakanchikova, Daria Tuchina, Paulina Timoshina, and also Dr. G.S. Terentyuk and Associate Professor A.N. Bashkatov.

The agreement will be valid for one year, long-term trip of Japanese colleague to Saratov University and participation of Olympus Corporation employees in the Saratov Fall Meeting 2014 are planned.

Round Robin Experiment

Raman spectroscopy has already proved its effectiveness in many cases for medical diagnostics such as for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. However, there are no standards in the different working groups, e.g. for sample preparation, implementation of the Raman experiments, spectra pre-treatment, data evaluation, etc.In a round robin experiment, the required groundwork will take place in order to define standardised Raman measurement methods, which will be fundamental for establishing Raman spectroscopy for clinical diagnostic procedures.
