Call Announcement: BiophotonicsPlus competition for funding

BiophotonicsPlus is a transnational call for research and development project proposals on ‘photonic appliances for life sciences and health’. Primarily, project proposals are sought which will translate existing biophotonic technologies and methods into appliances and put them into clinical, medical or industrial practice.

Since the 1st October 2012, the competition is open to participants from the Catalonia region (Spain), the Flanders region (Belgium), Germany, Israel, Latvia, the Tuscany region (Italy) and the United Kingdom. A two stage procedure will be applied in order to select the best project proposals. Stage 1 proposals by project consortia composed of participants from at least two of the participating countries and regions must be submitted online until 17th December 2012, 17:00 h CET at the latest.

For further information including the full call text and rules for participation please see the BiophotonicsPlus website at www.biophotonicsplus.eu .

BiophotonicsPlus, a joint initiative of the participating countries and regions, is supported and co‑funded by the European Commission, DG CONNECT.

Round Robin Experiment

Raman spectroscopy has already proved its effectiveness in many cases for medical diagnostics such as for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. However, there are no standards in the different working groups, e.g. for sample preparation, implementation of the Raman experiments, spectra pre-treatment, data evaluation, etc.In a round robin experiment, the required groundwork will take place in order to define standardised Raman measurement methods, which will be fundamental for establishing Raman spectroscopy for clinical diagnostic procedures.
