The UZ Brussel is an academic hospital associated with the faculty of Medicine and Pharmaceutics of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. With more than 3000 employees and 721 beds it is responsible for over 27.000 hospital admissions and 400.000 ambulatory patients each year.
In 2009 the UZ Brussel received for the second year in a row the “Top Employer” label awarded by the Corporate Research Foundation, making it the only hospital in Brussels to have received this award.
In 2007 the departments of Cardiology and Cardiovascular surgery joined forces to form the Centre for Heart and Vascular Disease. The CHVZ (Centre for Heart and Vascular Disease) has become an indispensable player on the health care scene in Brussels and in Belgium. Even abroad, the Centre for Heart and Vascular Disease is considered to be a leading institution. Round Robin Experiment

Raman spectroscopy has already proved its effectiveness in many cases for medical diagnostics such as for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. However, there are no standards in the different working groups, e.g. for sample preparation, implementation of the Raman experiments, spectra pre-treatment, data evaluation, etc.In a round robin experiment, the required groundwork will take place in order to define standardised Raman measurement methods, which will be fundamental for establishing Raman spectroscopy for clinical diagnostic procedures.
