Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics

As part of the Biological-Pharmaceutical and the Medical Faculty members of the Institute are involved in teaching at both the undergraduate and post-graduate level in many programs including Biochemistry, Biology, and Molecular Medicine. The research is focused on ion channels with the following fields of interest: Sodium Channels and Neurotoxins, Potassium Channels and Oncology, Potassium Channel Pharmacology, Ion Channels and Redox Processes, Plant Electrophysiology. The activities of the Chair of Biophysics is integrated in both the Biological-Pharmaceutical and the Medical Faculty. The Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics is a department of the Center for Molecular Biomedicine (CMB). Patch-Clamp, Ionenkanäle (Natrium und Kalium) in Zellmembranen.

Round Robin Experiment

Raman spectroscopy has already proved its effectiveness in many cases for medical diagnostics such as for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. However, there are no standards in the different working groups, e.g. for sample preparation, implementation of the Raman experiments, spectra pre-treatment, data evaluation, etc.In a round robin experiment, the required groundwork will take place in order to define standardised Raman measurement methods, which will be fundamental for establishing Raman spectroscopy for clinical diagnostic procedures.
