Biological-Pharmaceutical Faculty

Famous instructors like the biologist Schleiden, the zoologist Haeckel, and the pharmacist Poethke lived and worked in Jena. This tradition has formed today's standard for the demanding science and instruction in the faculty.
The curriculum is diverse and international. Diplom-biologists, biochemists, pharmacists and nutritionists as well as biology teachers for Gymnasien and Regelschulen are educated here. One can purse a Magister degree in biology and the history of natural science and technology. It is possible to combine an education degree or Magister degree with many other subjects such as English, economics, or philosophy. The Institute of Pharmacy teaches the scientific part of the Pharmacy curriculum in a four-year course which is completed by the second State Examination. A postgraduate course to obtain a Pharmacy diploma is also offered.

Round Robin Experiment

Raman spectroscopy has already proved its effectiveness in many cases for medical diagnostics such as for cancer, cardiovascular diseases and infections. However, there are no standards in the different working groups, e.g. for sample preparation, implementation of the Raman experiments, spectra pre-treatment, data evaluation, etc.In a round robin experiment, the required groundwork will take place in order to define standardised Raman measurement methods, which will be fundamental for establishing Raman spectroscopy for clinical diagnostic procedures.
